Nestled between the Boulder River and the Yellowstone  River, the Crazy Mountains and the Absaroka Range, agriculture, mining and recreation drive the local economy.

The Boulder Area has become hideaway to a number of "second home seekers" because of the natural beauty and the down home attitude of acceptance of the citizens.  The demand for unique high end items to accommodate the discriminating taste of the relatively new arrivals, has added to the scope of Big Timber's retailers.

The diversity of industry in the area has cultivated a variety of manufacturing companies located in Big Timber.  A cluster of precision manufacturers exists within the local industrial park, including producers of  cycling components and rifles.

Big Timber's agricultural heritage continues to be a major contributor to the Yellowstone Valley at Big Timber and the surrounding communities.  The sheep and cattle industry are prime examples of agriculture that continue to fuel a portion of Montana's economy.

Sheep producers from the area have looked at various forms of value added industries to supplement their sheep production.   Montana Natural Lamb and Sweet Grass Lamb are producers of specialty lamb products for today's fast paced lifestlyle.  The photo above shows these producers catering the Beartooth RC&D Board meeting with their specialty products.

Montana's vast landscape is home to the farm and ranch families that remain to preserve the agricultural heritage of the area.

History plays a big role in Montana and nowhere is it as rich as in the Big Timber area.  City park landmarks note the historical significance and revere the contributors to history.

What better figure to honor as a major player in the settlement of the West and it's continuing contribution to agriculture and rodeo events,  than the horse.
