The drive south from Red Lodge through mountain canyons quickly ascends to 10,300 feet via the famous switchbacks of the Beartooth Pass and takes you to Yellowstone Park just 60 miles "UP" the road.  Charles Kuralt referred to US Highway 212 as "the most spectacular road in America"

The largest employer in Carbon County, Red Lodge Mountain covers all season recreation. Lift capacity at the ski run is 10,690 skiers per hour.  An 18 hole golf course rounds out the recreational offerings of this long term employer.

Red Lodge, the premier recreational spot for south central Montana, also boasts other outstanding family activities that include the Beartooth Nature Center and it's staff of dedicated volunteers.  The only facility in Montana to house native animals that cannot be returned to the wild due to injury or habituation to humans.  It cares for more than a dozen species .
